A Rougher Guide To Ibiza

By Tom Binns

Ibiza is the most western island of the Balearic Islands, and human habitation dates from at least 5000 BC. If all you know of Ibiza is the trashy TV show that play on Satellite TV then you're in for a bit of a pleasant surprise when you come and visit. Ibiza is hilly and has sandy Calas and rocks and the most beautiful beaches and sandy shores of the Mediterranean.

Ibiza Town retains all its past glory and whilst commercialism has brought some high rise hotels there are also still some great places of character. Most of the hotels are open from April through October only. Ibiza has an incredible mix of cultures, the Spanish, this hippies, the clubbers, the media types, the glitterati from across Europe, the old school posh English

Ibiza weather is superb, with over 300 days of sunshine per year. However if you arrive in May-June and September-October you'll find the weather is still good and you won't have to deal with crowds of drunken holidaymakers. The weather or more unpredictable can be nice through November.

San Antonio is very popular, especially to people looking to escape the unpredictable British weather and enjoy almost guaranteed summer sun. It's full of the wrong type of tourists though if you want to get away from England. Most of the English here prefer to holiday in their football shirts.

Ibiza has lots to offer no matter what type of holiday you are after. You sure to have an amazing time in the Balearics. It's worth pointing out that ibiza pretty much closes down for the winter once the clubs shut in October. Which is a shame as it's a great place to visit all year around. - 29948
