By Markus N. Wuethrich

Traveling to Budapest for Christmas is an enjoyable and extraordinary trip. This Christmas, my family and I are about to embark on this journey for the third time. An event that is popular to both foreign and Hungarian visitors alike, the Christmas Market in Budapest is an event of high standards and traditions.

If you're looking for something that truly breathes the spirit of Christmas you should consider an event that is popular for both the people of Budapest and Hungary as well as for travelers from around the country. This event is known as The Christmas Market and it's held in Budapest every year. Though it's an out-of-season event, the Christmas market is the destination of tourists from all over and many people come to the city for the sole purpose of taking in the Christmas Market. By keeping the highest of standards and having a wide variety of programs that constantly are expanding, the Christmas market has become one of the largest events in Budapest and has become an internationally acclaimed festival that is beloved by people from around the world. The Christmas market is held in Vorosmarty square which is in the epicenter of Budapest.

Only the best of the Hungarian craftspeople are invited to Budapest's Christmas Market to sell their handmade products. The traditional Hungarian craftsman showcase their talents by handcrafting the products they sell and only use materials of the highest quality such as intricate porcelain, cut glass and leather goods. Quality is assured by the Hungarian Society of Folk Arts.

The market also has a relationship between food and the Hungarian culture. While you're wondering around the market make sure you try the traditional Hungarian foods and cakes that are all around you such as: grilled sausages and meats, strudels, Christmas cookies, kurtos kalacs (which are cylinder-shaped pastries that are hollow, covered with different coatings and simply delicious). If you're starting to feel a little tired you can unwind a bit with a great cup of coffee and some delicious Hungarian cake from the Gerbeaud Cafe.

As part of this year's series of Christmas programs in Budapest, it is also planned to host the real Santa Claus who flies in from Finland, and who will be met with immense interest from the children visiting the square, as he can personally hear to their wishes. An inseparable part of the Budapest Christmas' series of programs is the Advent Calendar.

This amazing festival is located in Vorosmarty Square which is situated in the heart of the city and is easily among the ten best Christmas markets in Europe. Many tourists plan a vacation to Budapest just so they can experience the market.

As with any popular tourist destination, you are not going to have any problems finding hotels in Budapest if you look online in advance of your trip.

The Budapest Christmas fair is an event favourite among both tourists and locals in the winter. If you're looking for a rare gift for your loved one, the Budapest Christmas Fair is a place that will give you many options. - 29948
