By Air:If traveling by air is your preference, flights to Amsterdam usually arrive at the Schiphol Airport, which is approximately 18 kilometers southwest of the city center. From the airport, you will need to take the train to Central Station. Trains generally depart from the airport to Central Station every 20 minutes. Upon arrival at Central Station, you will need to take a taxi to the heart of town. The duration and cost of your taxi trip will vary depending on your destination, but 15 minutes and ?30 are a good rule of thumb.

By Bus: If you decide to make the trip by bus, they arrive and leave Amsterdam via Amstel Station. Amstel Station is even connected to Central Station via metro. Add to that the fact that buses heading to London, Brussels, and Amsterdam's other cities also leave from the Amstel Station.

On Foot:The central portion of Amsterdam is very easy to get around on foot, and what else there is to explore beyond the Red Light District and Dam Square is but a short tram or bike ride away!

One of the most important things to remember is to always lock up your bicycle, as bike thieves are ever present and theft is a major issue in the city.
